New York City Transit is by far the largest transit system in the US, one of the largest in the world, and the heart of New York City. The subway is the only one of the world's largest systems to never shut down. As a consequence, NYCT's standards for durability and maintenance are extraordinarily strict. The new station is designed to last another century or more - in the salty ocean environment, in constant operation.
